As a newbie used to the NYC open mic scene, this was fantastic. I would have been proud to have friends and family at this show (as opposed to many of the other painful mics we tolerate as beginners). Good mix of true audience and comics in the crowd, everyone stayed to the end, and Ralph, the host that night, did a great job of keeping the crowd “up” throughout the show. Host and comics were also fully engaged with all performers. Nobody had interminable watch-me-go-over-my-notes silences, and it was a good showcase of both experienced and newbie comics. Supportive, yes, but genuine, useful feedback also, both in-the-moment and after the show. Hopefully I’ll be lucky enough to get back to DC on a Thursday night soon.
