It's the best room for open mic comedy in the City of Philadelphia, in my personal opinion. I went to this room three years ago and was so impressed with the level of talent at the open mic that I decided to become a comic myself. It's a great mic that gets a great crowd and not to mention it's a great venue also the city.
I have been going and signing up EVERY SINGLE open mic night for the last 9 months...and i have NEVER got any time. Dont waist your time, go to NoChe around the corner
If your not someone they know, don't waste you time signing up on the list because they are trying to make money promoting their own. The guys I met been there for more than 2 years, and still are not signed.
I think they invite people in every now and then to discover new material so they can steal it to promote their own guys. Don't go here if your starting out in standup. They have cameras outside the building to catch people studying their material and all new people are excluded from the list that is produced. This is a local joint that's rigged to promote comics that they know locally.

These comics have proven themselves to be consistently funny. They write their own material, and do their own act. We don't have any play in their creative process. What a weird statement.

Yes and no. If you're still fresh, you will gain more experience performing in smaller rooms. If you have 3 solid minutes of material, here's your chance to perform it in a professional environment.

The cameras outside of the building belong to the Parking lot next door.

We love the local comedy scene! Why are we promoting traveling comics?

We promote our headliners, who are TV-credited comedians with a history of stand-up. Visit our FB/Twitter/website. Colin Quinn, Damon Wayans, and Margaret Cho... comics our fans ask us to bring. I apologize if we don't put 'Steve the Milkman' or 'Jimmy Two-tongues' on stage. They don't sell.

2 years is still a newbie comic. It's not how many years you worked, it's how much experience you have. 100 shows? 1000 shows? Many of our headliners has been doing comedy for ten years, and have been featured on television.
--------------- It's true- Helium Comedy Club is selective about our Open Mic. 120 people on average sign up to perform, and we only have enough room on the list for about 25 people.
If you waste your 3 minutes doing hack comedy or offending the audience, we'll wait a month before we give you another chance. Take the time to practice your material EVERYWHERE. When you have a diverse set of jokes that work for any demographic (old, young, black, white, asian, rich, poor, etc), then try it at Helium. We'd love to hear it! :)
