  1. This is a great place to perform. The room is still new, but gets a decent turn out for a sunday night open mic and the host Steven Long does a great time of providing the comics with great stage time, usually 6-8 minutes depending on how many comics show.

Plus it's a free and the drinks are at a reasonable price and it starts early enough that you can perform here an get out to the city to hit another mic. Awesome place to perform and a great stage. I love it!

  2. Great venue!! Steven does a fantastic job as the host and as Salty says he gives all comedians ample time on stage and makes you feel welcomed.

Comfortable setting and I'll be going there often.

  3. One of the best open mics around. Last one there was just about a full house.

  4. Great venue, getting bigger every two weeks it seems. Pros and amateurs alike show up, and always to a supportive crowd. Host Steve Long gets it done right.

    Free popcorn!

  5. This is a good open mic. There's an actual audience here, so that makes this place stand out from most open mics where the audience consists of the other comics waiting to go on.

Steve, the host, does a good job of keeping the show moving most of the time. Supposedly they're going to start doing this open mic every Sunday starting in the fall. If you're a new comic you'll definitely want to check this room out.

  6. This has become a pay to play open mic. I don't care what problems a mic has that leads it to become a pay to play. Nothing justifies pay to play. Nothing.

  7. This is Steve from Mammoth Comedy. This is not a pay to play mic. There are always free spots available for each show. There is a $5 charge for people who do not feel like showing up an hour and a half early to sign up in person to reserve a place in advance online. Either way is fine with me. We have been averaging 50 audience members that have provided comics a good gauge of how their material is developing.

  8. The best suburban open mic around. Bar none.

  10. It is total Pay to Play.

Comics, how do you expect to ever get paid if you'll pay to play? Not cool. Fact of the matter is, they should be paying YOU. Without comics, there's no show. Period. Do not pay to play.

  12. an open mic and small show cases really shouldnt pay if you are new and you cant even do 5 min why should any one pay for thatyou need to work your way up to a paying gig its called paying your dues and getting your feet wet, once you do that and are consistant then you should get paid

  13. One: This showcase does charge if you want to guarantee a spot. In the early days, the sign-up list would be full more than an hour before the show started, and this was a way to offset that. IF YOU DON'T WANT TO PAY, YOU DON'T HAVE TO. Whomever is saying it is a pay open mic is completely wrong, and (in my opinion) cowardly for posting anonymously, especially after Steve's comment.

Two: Every time I have come to the open mic, I have been able to get onstage (even without signing up), and I've sometimes arrived 45 minutes late.

It's still an awesome open mic, especially now that a few Chicagoans got wind of it and have been heading out. Check it out.

  14. This is an awesome place with a great host. It is NOT a pay to play open mic, it is a pay-to-reserve-a-spot-because-I-feel-like-being-too-lazy-to-get-there-2-hours-in-advance-to-sign-up. Anybody can show up and take a spot for free. It has just become such a success that at times there are over 40 comics who want stage time and the reality is, there is only time for 25-30. I love performing there and will make it there every chance I get and will happily pay the $5 convenience of reserving a spot so I can be lazy.

  15. Of course Matt Drufke can get up, because everyone kisses his ass because he runs other rooms in the area and can get them spots on other shows.

Isn't it funny how that works?

  16. Hey, anonymous...

When I have something to say, I put my name behind it... like an adult.

  17. I think this is so funny. There are plenty of people coming out and having a great time. If the structure of this Open Mic is not your cup of tea... No worries, there are plenty of open mics in the city. I run a fair open mic that everyone has the same chance to get some time, including Matt Drufke.

  18. Steve does not kiss Matts ass, Steve is funny enough not to need to kiss ass for spots. You are seeing is a lot of people respect Matt, because he is
    1)Super nice
2)Respectful to all other comics even the ones who don't deserve it
    3)Very Funny.

I’m sure you don’t understand the difference because you are probably an unfunny hacky piece of shit. And since you seem to like to talk shit anonymously I’m guessing you are portably also a big pussy. I hope you realize you are needless and kill yourself, only to find Saint Peter asking for five bucks to get in. Assuming you are the same dip shit bitching about reserves.

  21. Matt Drufke's ass is the best ass in Chicago comedy - hands down!

  22. Let's all try and guess who it is!

    My first guess-Laugh Hammer.

  24. Ok its me I do it because
    1)I'm not funny
2)I'm sad because Drufke and everybody else is better than I am
    3)I'm a loser

  26. This is hands down one of the best places ever to open mic. Especially if you can't make it out to the city. The fact that there is an option to just show up and sign up of just pay 5 whole dollars ( holy shit that's a mortgage in a third world country) is awesome. You get free popcorn, a professional setting, a classy host, oh! And get this! Steve and Matt both run shows, so if your funny guess what????? You may get booked....wow! What a concept! I have know bot Steve and Matt for about 3 years and you couldn't ask for two more sincere people in the comic community. So keep supporting this room. ( suck it anonymous)

  27. Did my first open mic/set yesterday 9/18 (was the opening guy) and I had a blast. Went here two weeks ago, just to check it out. DEFINITELY worth the time. I will not miss this open mic ever. I actually went out of the way to bring my group of friends out here, just for them to experience a true open mic and some great comedy. A lot of talent here. To note: just got back from one downtown and it was sad... I know I have to put my licks in, but I am happy I live next to this open mic, and hope it will become my home base.

  28. Probably my 3rd or 4th time going to the Mammoth Comedy Open Mic. I think Steve Long is a good host and runs a good room there. Nice set up and the crowd has always been receptive. It's not just a room full of comics waiting to go on, but real live people who come to laugh. You get a wide range of folks showing up from some seasoned vets who are trying out new stuff to the "new guy" going on for the first time. If you're looking for a place outside Chicago, this should definitely be on your list....did I mention you get popcorn?

  29. Awesome show. Great crowd. Worth your time for a Sunday. The only thing I didn't like was that I felt old as shit compared to the other comics and the crowd.

  30. Good place to start!!!

  31. This is my favoriate open mic in the suburb. What is great about this place is that it has a large percentage of noncomic audience. No cover could largely be the reason. And you get free popcorns. If you bring 10 friends, you don't need to pay 10xcover, which could cost you a fortune when doing it too often. And at least for now they don't mandate minimum number of drinks. They just encourage you to have fun drinking. I think all these contribute to the high percentage of noncomic audience. Ask any comics and they will tell you they love this place.

  32. Went back to this place after being away from Stand up for awhile. I was a little shakey going back on a stage after several months. Deciding to go back to Mammoth as my first stop on getting back on track was definitely a good idea. As always, the crowd was supportive of all the comics, the other comics were all cool, and I had a great time. Definitely one of my favorite spots to visit...will definitely go back
