This place was great. Free parking. 10 minute spots without having to buy an item. If I remember right they had drink specials during the show too. And there were probably 6-10 audience members. Almost all the comics stayed for the entire show too.
Laid, relaxing place. Both music and comedy. More time given than other open mics; best half of the audience is composed on non-performers so your material is well tested at club 705.
This place is fun. You get like 10 minutes but if you need to work out a 15 minute set they'll give you that. They're chill and everyone is really nice. And parking was easy. There's a garage for the gym members like 2 blocks behind the place and you can park there for free. They had a stage too, not just a mic in the corner (the club, not the parking garage).
This place is really great...kind of. If you don't know the mc you will, without fail, get bumped. And, for those interested, it actually starts at 7:00 instead of 9. There are some good people and it's better then most open mic's because people actually give you GOOD feedback on your jokes, versus most where people don't laugh sitting around waiting for there turn. In general, advice to those open mic comedians waiting to get booked, if you don't laugh at others jokes, don't expect to get laughs at your jokes. Lighten up and just have a good time.
You might be heckled by a 60yr old man named Bob, but you can always use him to enhance your act, he is a regular, so prepare some Bob jokes.
The host Mel is super cool, and a music producer.
The night is a mix of comics and guitar musicians.
I have been here twice, both times I was the only black person in the room. The regulars are normally over 40 and white, tailor your jokes accordingly.
Great Place to work out your material!! I highly suggest this open mic over a lot of the others!! Good Crowd, friendly performers, and simply a cool place!! This place should be getting much more action than it does, if you perform and have not gone here yet,.. you are missing out my friend!!! I would love to see more performers take advantage of such a cool place!! So, hope to see you there!!
Warm yet professional vibe. Having musicians in the mix is a great idea that more open-mics should adapt. It really adds a different dynamic to the audience and the overall show.
It's the kinda venue that you buy a drink because you want a drink, not because there is a $7 minimum. My kinda venue.
Great open mic! Only my second time going and I felt welcome and the atmosphere was great! Aside from the 10 people that were talking and laughing at the bar while the rest of the audience was listening, I have no complaints at all! If your material is inclusive enough, they may actually stop laughing at themselves and listen to you! I got lucky and came here for my first time to an audience of about 15 and a comic audience of about 15 plus about 10 people at the bar so there was an audience of about 40ish people. It felt like a booked show! No fees, I bought a drink just cause i was diggin the place. Would definitely recommend this as one of the best open mic practice spots, or even if you want to do a well rehearsed set. GO!
I went once last year and had a good time. I did my thing on stage and it felt good. I got there late, but the small audience of comics and regulars was cool and nice. The food was cheap, but too bad it was...uh, undercooked? Who undercooks pizza? And calamari? wtf? I spoke to the owners though, and they said they were working out some kinks and that they would address it (they actually did, with the cook, in front of me). Hope it's better next time, because I'd love to go back, soon, even though I'm in Hollywood. Please keep the feedback coming on this place! thnx!

ReplyDeleteBoth music and comedy. Half the audience is non comedic so its closer to an bookedshowcase than a regular open mic.
