i got up here once and it was the best open mic crowd by far. They even laughed at shit that I know was not funny. It wasn't that they weren't a smart crowd it was just that it was such a cool room that it was like just hanging out with friends and trying out new experimental stuff. If you consider yourself an alternative comic and can't get laughs here then you might suck.
Its a waste of time...each comedy place lets their friends or whomever go up even if its a bucket draw...as if you're gonna be on SNL or get a movie deal for doing open mic stand-up that very night...don't waste people's time with this bullshit lottery when they could easily be doing some open mic somewhere else in town...Laugh Factory has the best fair system...at least they're up-front about it and you know what to expect in the first place...
Just went last Friday. I didn't get to go up, but of the roughly 60 comics who showed up, about 35 or so stayed and watched the 10 who were lucky enough to get their numbers called. And not only that, they laughed when they liked a joke! I wished they did this more often because this is what stand up comedy should be like; people supporting one another and laughing, because that's what you'd want them to do when you get up. I really can't wait for this next month, I know it will be a great time again. Now I've just gotta find out where this crowd goes the other 29 days of each month...
good place but not much chance to get up. talked to a guy said he had been trying for a year. they draw from a can but who knows if fixed, they can say the paper has whoever they want on it we cant see, good if you go up. sit by the door so you can bail if the don't draw you.
The biggest problem with this open mic is that it's only once per month. It's a lottery. Names drawn in front of everyone.
