Sassi is one of the best around! She is warm and friendly. There is always a positive vibe, good supportive group there. I've seen several newbies and they are supported and encouraged.
People trickle into the mic late, so if you show up on time, there may not be as many people there yet.
Sassi also runs industry shows that are great if you're looking for comedy/acting stuff.
I performed last Friday and it was the best mic that I've been to in the city. Most of the comics made me laugh or chuckle and there were only 2 crazy people.
one of the nicest rooms in the open mike circuit. it feels good to be there and it is a well run show - the hosts don't spend a lot of time between acts working on their material. i like the crazy people - it is comedy for crying out loud. Only two crazy people is not enough. check out greg hahn on you tube. the funniest guy in the business- he is nuts
good mic. Sassi's cool people! Most comedians are funny & positive, although this one is notorious for hit & runs. They perform & then they're... GONE. But can't blame them, its Friday night & most need to pretend like they have lives when in reality they're just rushing home to make it a Blockbuster night! jk. ive had only good experiences at this mic
I like this mic. Pretty easy room, I do it pretty much every week cuz its fun and the ppl are cool and id rather be out doing comedy and downing a few beers then doing anything else. Somebody should start a weekly mic that I could go to after this one. Joey McDevitt
Great space...Feels like a real comedy club, maybe because it is. I found the other comics friendly and positive. And there's something to be said for walking through the theatre district after a set; so close yet...
Very Supportive mic.....Drinks are reasonable and the staff hustles and are friendly.....The place always has a buzz and people milling around.....Yea there are some who are low life hanger ons, but the mic is good...and it starts at 530pm...plenty of time to do what you need on stage and then go out on the town.......
Sassi is fun & has the best laugh ever! Its weird but in a good way where u can riff off of it. I like this mic & usually has a lot of good talent here. As a comedian of 1 year exactly to date, we want competition so that we can learn from others. Last time I went, 80% of the comedians were FUNNY :-D
It's a good room, but the few times I went, most comics leave after their sets. She doesn't enforce a "stay the whole show" code that some of the others do. If you are one of the last up, you WILL be performing to an empty room, and what is the point in that? I prefer those rooms that require you to stay the whole show, and utilize them instead for that very reason.
Great mic. Very fun. All the comedians, were comedians... as in they were funny. Finally a mic were they get it & the jokes. No backstabbing, or cliques. This is the best mic I have been to so far. Other open mic hosts, come to this mic, take notes & see how it should be done.
Not a bad mic. Decent stage and lighting. The hosting duties were broken into two shifts. The first guy was nice enough, sort of funny. The second guy was not as nice or funny; but he WAS unsupportive... so... Not a lot of great comics... me included. It's a bit cliquish. But overall not a bad mic. I would go back. More jaded, but I would go back.
If you've done successful open mics before and know your shit is funny, BCC is a great place to try out fresh material. And if not...well, you can probably tell.
A GLBT-friendly environment, this space is very inviting, though the crowd will most likely be all comedians, so it can be a bit rough. Just don't feel bad if you don't get everyone laughing. I honestly think I went on a bad evening of a normally festive activity because Sassi, the hostess, was on the road. Definitely returning.
Good lord but Broadway Comedy Club has the WORST mics in the city, IMO. Just disgusting. I don't mind the cliques but giving friends preferential treatment when others have paid their money too? That's just wrong. And the host(s) don't seem to pay much attention and are not particularly funny. Funnier than me, but that is not difficult. The room is just poorly run. Again, this is just my opinion. But I won't recommend this mic. There are others in the city that are much better.
This mic is awesome and supportive. Sassi pitches the bringers and the opportunities available to earn more stage time but it never feels overbearing and is has more the feel of "Hey, here's the obligatory plugs" rather than "You must do this!"
7 minutes is rare to get for a mic so that is nice. People do get bumped up sometimes but they're regulars that need a favor because they have to be somewhere or house comedians and anyone who thinks they wouldn't show respect for them is lying. It's a business where you have to trade favors, sometimes a bump happens but you usually get to see someone who is ahead of you in the game and maybe learn something from watching them.
I cannot fathom how BCC would EVER win ANY kind of award for their open mics. I like NYCC... and Times Square Comedy Club has the BEST mic, in my opinion, on Friday nights. But BCC mics are just tragic. Of course that is only my opinion, though others do share it. However, there are those comics who think BCC is the bombdiggity... these people are in need of an intervention, I think... 'cause BCC BLOWS!
Say what you want about the talent level in any room, if you've been to more than one open mic, you'll quickly realize they're all basically the same. Do some possess chronic hacks? Yes. Do some possess cliques? yes. Do some suck? Maybe. I believe the onus is on the comic to make the most of any performing experience. But to say that this particular mic "blows" is simply misguided. Sassi (the host) is a sweetheart and there are genuine opportunities to get spots in REAL shows at the club. There aren't many other mics that offer spots. For those of you who insist on comparing mics: grow up.
There are several other mics that offer spots. You need to do some homework son, before you make those kinds of pronouncements. I don't think Broadway Comedy "blows" so much... at least not much more than other mics. Sassi seems nice, if not all together funny. Good room and good stage. I'd simply say that if you DO go and it's your first time, your agenda should be just doing your act. Not getting laughs. Unless they know you... most likely they will not laugh. Overall there are better mics and some worse mics.
@ Above: Fair enough, by writing that most mics don't give away slots, I may have over-stated my position. Forgive me, I'm prone to hyperbole. But I think it's a safe guess that 90% (+/- 5%) of the open mics in this city DO NOT offer spots, as Sassi's does. So that in of itself lends quality to the mic. And in all fairness to non-laughing "regulars" of any mic: I have found in the past that with many (not all mind you) open mics there is a bit of a no-laugh curve or- a disapproval-hyperbola if you will- for a new comic. Meaning he/she must show up a couple of times to said mic, and be funny of course, before the regulars begin to laugh. This doesn't excuse the non-laughing and insecure regulars. In fact, I think it proves my theory that many comics are shit. (human being+comedic ambitions/time in NYC=feces)
There are always lots of really old people performing at these Broadway comedy club mics. If you are old, or you have material aimed at old people, I recommend this mic. If you want to perform with younger people or are depressed by seeing grandparents doing open mics, I recommend avoiding any of the mics uptown or around times square.
Young or old I want to see someone funny. A lot of young comics I see are navel-gazing hipster clowns talking about date rape and getting high. Hahahahahaha... [eye roll]. BCC is just poorly run.
@ "There are always lots of really old people..." I got news for ya skippy: Your life is flashin' by ya and ya don't even know it, because you're too busy suckin' your mother's teat; ya little prick ya.
Yeah that's what I want to see... a bunch of young kids who have experienced NOTHING... telling us what's funny... You're young and you're lame. Go home to yo mama... I shaved her back for her. Punk ass jagoff.
No, we will never raise it to 7, lol! $3 goes to my little boy's college fund and the drinks are discounted. Sometimes we get a sub waitress and we forget to tell her about the discounted drinks, sorry, but I'm getting much better about remembering!
$3 and 1 drink minimum ($8 for a fucking beer) comes out to $11. I think it's way too expensive, for that I'd rather go to SuperEgo. BUT it's a very fun mic, very good vib. No cliques or anything like that. Super supportive. Maybe I'll come back when I get my tax return in January.
GREAT MIC! Came here last Friday for the first time. It's $3 and I bought a Bud for $6, just in case anyone was wondering about prices. Comics were good. Alex and Brian were great hosts. They didn't eat up a lot of time and kept the energy up. And the best part was they're was an actual audience! Not huge, but it's so good just to get an honest response to what you're doing. That alone is worth $9. Looking forward to going back.
I have experienced extreme prejudice against and lack of consideration for my disability, at the hands of Sassi and her boss, Aaron. They are unkind people. When I complained, they blamed me. Bad karma, here. Protect yourself and avoid paying absurd drink prices, go elsewhere.
Hugh, It broke my heart to ban you from our mic b/c my brother died of the same type of head injury as you. We worked with you for 6 months before we gave up. You constantly asked for favoritism over the other comics in inappropriate ways and we talked to you about it a lot. We run a serivice for comics that is also a business and sometimes I have to be business like. I do wish you the best and bless you and I do think you are funny. Take care, Sassi
If you don't drink (which I don't) you get robbed paying 5 bucks for a bottle of water and still have to pay 3 dollars to Sassi. Not to mention the tip you give the grumpy waitress who deserves a swift kick in the shitter.
This mic used to be good but they stopped giving away a spot at the end or even the second prize of a drink and a free mic so everyone splits after their sets.
Hey now, they charged me $10 because I forgot to get a drink and then they wouldn't let me get a drink because "the bar was closed." Bullshit. And I'm not leaving an anonymous comment because I'm actually pissed.
there are so many bad reviews on this mic and the host, I wonder if they are just personal sometimes. But paying 10 dollars for an open mic is ridiculous. So, somehow I understand.
I have been told for years to try stand-up. Only thing holding me back is lack of balls. Lately I have been saying I just got to do it! Can I call a week in advance to get a mic spot or does it have to be the day before? I have been to BCC before and enjoyed it as a member of the audience. I do not know what all the bitching is about. It is a good time at BCC!

Otherwise, it's a very supportive environment. There's a lot of friendly regulars and the lady who books it (Sassi) is sweet. Also, the young host (Robert) is something special. The kid is friendly, professional, and hilarious on stage. The mic is worth going to a few times just to get in good graces with those two.
